Dental insurance

Dental insurance can give you much-needed peace of mind, especially seeing how much dental work costs. With a quality dental insurance policy, you can ensure that your dental problems get the coverage they need.

Whether you currently have dental coverage or are trying to add new benefits to your dental insurance policy, it is important to get the basics of dental insurance. To know more about dental claims and insurance, contact Medisave dental claim.

What Is Dental Insurance?

Just like any other insurance, dental insurance covers dental care. Dental insurance does not fall under medical care. It is often provided in conjunction with vision insurance.

Dental insurance plans follow the deductibles principles. That means you must pay first to get the dental treatment. They also have an upper limit to how much dental insurance will cover. That means, if the situation is difficult, you might have to pay some of the treatment cost from your pocket.

How Do Dental Claim & Insurance Work?

With most dental insurance policies, you pay your dental treatment to the doctors and then claim back the cost from the dental insurance agency.

Like other health insurance, dental insurance plans vary and cover different benefits. Hence, it is important that you check the coverage plan before considering it.

However, in general, a dental insurance plan covers the following:

  • Regular checkups.
  • Cavity fillings.
  • Tooth extraction.
  • Crown, bridges, implants.
  • X-rays.
  • Dental appliances.
  • Emergency dental procedure.
  • Root canals.

Note: Although your dental insurance policies may cover all the benefits, there is a limit to how much the insurer can pay. Sometimes the payment is covered with a copay.

What Is Not Covered In Dental Insurance Plans?

While most dental insurance covers the basic treatment and preventive work, there are some dental procedures that many insurers do not provide coverage for. For instance, you don’t get coverage for composite fillings.

Here are a few treatments that are not covered in the dental insurance policy.

  • Cosmetic procedures.
  • Pre-existing medical conditions related to dental care.
  • Braces.

Buying Individual Dental Insurance

Buying dental insurance plans is similar to health insurance plans. There are several ways to do so. How this works depends on the type of coverage you need.

Health Benefits

Many dental insurance carriers offer dental insurance through a health benefit exchange. These plans are designed to meet family needs with varying budgets.

Standalone Plans

The other method that can be used to buy a dental insurance plan is the standalone method. There are many dental insurance carriers that allow people to purchase dental insurance directly. That means you can buy a dental insurance plan even if you do not have any health insurance.

How To Use A Dental Insurance Plan?

Now that you have a dental insurance plan, you must be wondering how you can use it. Well, the process might be different than the regular health insurance plan; it is simple.

First, find a dentist in your plan’s network. You can choose any dentist to provide the services. Go through with the dental treatment, pay the amount and then claim back from the insurer.

While you are availing of services, there is a term you will encounter, Non-participating Dentist. These dentists are not part of the network, and availing services from them limits the amount of money you can get back from the insurer.

Alternative To Dental Insurance

Dental insurance isn’t necessarily the cheapest way to pay for your dental care. There are other methods that might seem a viable option spending on the situation.

  • Paying By Credit Card: With the use of a credit card, you can spread out your treatment cost by up to 21 months.
  • Self Insuring: Rather than paying an annual premium to the insurer, why not save the same amount in a saving account. The benefit of this method is that if you do not use the money, the money remains yours.
  • Health Cash Plan: Many prefer to have a health cash plan. It is similar to the other insurance, but in this case, you receive cash to cover your treatment. Although the received cash may not cover the whole bill, it certainly reduces the amount.

Get Your Dental Insurance Today!

We understand that dental care is last on most people’s lists. However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t important. As you grow older, dental care becomes more frequent. Hence, you must have an insurance policy that restricts you from breaking your retirement account to cover your dental treatment.
