There is something about being outside and enjoying the sunshine and all that comes with it. Whether it is an outdoor hike or laying out at the beach, enjoying a sunny day is an experience all its own. 

What is not very fun is forgetting to stay protected from the sun. This usually ends up with a sunburn that has you applying as much aloe as possible. Unfortunately, most of us have been there and don’t want to experience the hot, hurting sunburn feeling again. Outside of the pain, allowing yourself to get sunburned can cause damage to your skin that could last years. 

With this list of five ways to stay protected from the sun, you will be able to enjoy all that a sunny day has to offer while still making sure that you are staying safe. From the right sunscreen to protective clothing to hydration, this article will cover it all. 

Find the Right Sunscreen

One of the first steps to making sure you are staying protected from the sun is applying sunscreen. Using sunscreen will not only keep your skin from burning but also potentially protect you from skin cancer and premature skin aging. 

Unfortunately, though, not all sunscreens are equal. Some sunscreen brands are more effective than others. Also, you want to make sure that the sunscreen you are applying to your face and the rest of your body doesn’t have harmful chemicals. You want a natural sunscreen that will protect you without all the extra chemicals. 

Also, make sure that once you find the right sunscreen for you, you are regularly applying it throughout the day. 

Clothing that Protects from the Sun

Another great way to protect yourself from the harmful rays of the sun is with the right type of clothing. There are outdoor brands of clothing that offer UV protection from the sun. 

Depending on the material, you could still end up being burned through your clothing, but not with the right material. If you wear clothing made to resist the sun, you will make sure to be protected throughout the day. 

And don’t think that you will have to sweat to death, either. Most of these clothing items are light and airy, which will help to keep you as cool as possible.

Wear Sunglasses

When it comes to wearing sunglasses, it isn’t just about looking cool or helping you see better against the sun’s glare. The right pair of sunglasses will help protect your eyes from getting sunburned and help prevent long-term damage (plus, they also make you look cool). So spend time finding a pair of sunglasses that not only looks great on you but that will also help to protect your eyes from the steady rays of the sun. 

Sit in the Shade When Possible

One of the best ways to protect yourself from the sun is not being in the sun at all. That sounds like a pretty obvious statement, but the more you can spot up under the shade during the really hot parts of the day, the better. 

So if you plan a trip to the beach, make sure to bring a pop-up tent or umbrella that you can use. You can still enjoy everything that the beach has to offer; you will just be able to do it in more comfort in the shade. 

Drink Plenty of Water

This might seem like a pretty obvious thing to do, but you would be surprised at how many people still allow themselves to get some level of heatstroke in the sun. So the more you can make sure that you are staying hydrated, the better. 

Think, “drink early and drink often” when you are enjoying any outdoor activities on a hot, sunny day. This will help prevent you from headaches, cramps, and anything more serious.
